Requirements
You are required to write an essay of 500-600 words.
Your paper is due by 11:59 PM on December 12th. NO EXTENSIONS. NO LATE
PAPERS.
You should upload your paper to Canvas.
You are free to come to my regular office hours (T/Th 12:15-1:45 in DM 341-D) or to
schedule an appointment with me if you’d like to go over a draft of your paper.

Reflection Piece Goals
For the final reflection piece, you will discuss the questions below. Doing so will provide you
practice toward Goals 1-3 and 6 for the course.
To remind
you
of these goals are:
1. To understand core concepts in philosophy.
2. To read arguments.
3. To write clearly.
4. To reflect on personal values.
Paper Topic:
You are asked to choose one text from any unit of the course that was personally significant to you
and to reflect on why it was so. Did the text help you think through (and possibly even resolve) a
personal problem? Did it help you understand a social phenomenon? Is it an idea that you had never
given any thought to and that you now find interesting? Is it an argument you strongly disagreed
with and want to critically discuss?
In reflecting on this text, you are required to:
1. Offer a summary of the text and use textual evidence to support your summary! ☺
2. Reflect on why the text was personally significant (use the questions above to guide you).
3. Reflect on how you want to keep the spirit of the text alive.” Would you want to read the
whole book from which it was excerpted? Do you want to incorporate its ideas in your
life?
