Introduction
Tesla Motors is an American automobile company specializes in manufacturing electric
cars and solar vehicles (Tesla, n.d.). The company was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc
Tarpenning in 2003. The present owner of the company is Elon Musk. In 2018, Tesla is ranked
as the best-selling passenger car vehicle manufacturing company. The vehicle sales of the
company have increased by 280% in the United States. The sales have increased from 48000
vehicles in 2017 to 182,400 in 2018. The global increase in market share is 138% from 2017.
Match the organization’s strengths to its opportunities
The strengths of the organization include dominating US electric vehicle sales. This
proves that none other company is able to produce an electric efficient vehicle. Tesla has been
using the best quality resources so that the car provides long-term benefits to the customers. The
main focus is on innovation and quality which makes it the widely preferred vehicle company
not only in the United States but also in various parts of Europe, Asia, etc. Increased preference
means chances of an increase in sales (Jackson, Joshi, & Erhardt, 2003). Tesla has been
producing expensive vehicles due to heavy focus on innovation, despite all these Tesla model 3
is affordable providing more power and slightly fewer features. This will help to complete the
other brands offering electric vehicles at less prices. The fuel vehicles turn out to be a costly
affair due to increasing fuel prices and maintenance. Due to this, Tesla has focused on innovative
processes to successively provide solar vehicles to a large number of customers. This means
there are chances of diversification.

Tesla has a limited market presence because the focus is on the US market. The company
should analyze the taste and preferences of vehicle owners in various developing countries like
China, India, Japan, etc. They should analyze the type of vehicles driven by the people and the
affordable price range. If the customers will be provided a more efficient vehicle as compared to
the fuel vehicles then they will definitely go for energy-efficient vehicles. Due to innovative
processes, the vehicles manufactured are priced high. However, the vehicle reaps the benefits to
the customer in the long run. To make the cars affordable, Tesla should focus on increasing
production and sales because increasing the production will reduce the cost and consequently the
profit margins can be equalized by reducing the sale price of the cars. The shortage of resources
is one main weakness that reduces production. The organization must diversify the business in
the area for which they experience a shortage of resources. For example, batteries are the main
component on which the performance of the car depends. If they experience a shortage of
batteries, then the diversification should be planned.
Recommendations do you have to mitigate the impact of the threats
Tesla has the ability to become the world’s best-selling car company. However, there are
certain factors that need to be considered like excessive competition. Tesla has been spending a
huge amount on the innovation to make efficient vehicles (Chen, Kim, & Yamaguchi, 2014).
They should focus on competitive advantage because it is the only way to increase sales and
profitability. Secondly, the company should expand the business to manufacture technologically
advanced products which are not easily available like high-performance batteries. Moreover,
Tesla should expand operations in the developing markets focusing on the renewable for energyefficient vehicles instead of fuel vehicles.

Action to expand their competitive advantage
The actions to be taken to expand their competitive advantage are hiring fresh University
or college graduates. The hiring should be e conducted on a regular basis because the focus of
the company is on innovation. The people who have been working for the last 10 to 11 years
may not have those skills and knowledge which are essential for the present business scenario.
The organization should also identify the raw materials for which they experience a shortage of
those which are available at a high price from the suppliers.
Reasons for actions
The organization should take these actions as they will help them to succeed in the
automobile industry not only in the United States but at other places as well. Hiring fresh
graduates might not be experienced but they will be young and enthusiastic about the work. They
would have studied the things related to the present technology which were not there in the
books before 10 years. Initially, training needs to be provided by the experienced people so that
their present knowledge can be aligned with the skills required. The diversification of business
for the least available raw material will provide regular supply. Moreover, the profit margin of
the supplier will also be credited to the organizational profits.
