You can choose to include photos, clipart, graphs, charts, gifs, videos, music, graphic design, or any element you may feel will benefit the communication of your overall purpose. As you move through this process, think to yourself, “what will best improve the rhetoric of this piece?” You may also choose to re-vision the work as a physical visual art piece or as a video or recording. As you work on this project, consider what would be the most beneficial to your portfolio. You must integrate at least 3 multimodal elements that have clear relevance to the work and enhance the overall impact of your rhetoric. You must also revise your written work as you go. Using the technique you intend to employ in your portfolio, mark and explain your changes so that they are immediately evident to me. Writing Plan for Mental Health Screening
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It affects how
individuals think, feel, and act and also helps in determining individual responses to different
environmental factors such as stress, social relationships, and personal choices. Mental health is
an essential concept for every stage of life from childhood through adolescent to adulthood.
However, mental health problems are common, and this means that immediate help is necessary
to help avoid any uncertainty associated with it. Early mental health screening is thus essential
because it allows for early identification and intervention and helps bridge the gap.
The major arguments addressed in this persuasive essay are the importance of early
mental health screening. Early mental health screening is critical for early identification and
intervention. In other words, early identification and intervention lead to better health outcomes
as well as a lessening of long-term disability and many years of suffering. These arguments
relate to my field of work since it highlights the need for early intervention in the case of mental
health. As an individual, I believe mental health is a serious concern within the community
because it results in long-term disability; thus, early intervention is critical.
The three main points that will support my overall arguments in this discussion include
the fact that mental health screening is a vital part of mental health. Psychological health
problems affect half of the American population at some points in life. Early screening and
identification inform early intervention that reduces the negative impacts of mental health
problems. These three points generally support my arguments on the need for early mental health
screening as an appropriate measure to curb mental health problem which is a common issue
within our societies. Approximately 50% of mental health problems begin at age 14, while 75%

begin by age 24. In this case, early identification through mental health screening helps improve
health outcomes.
Different people will be interested in reading this information including fellow students,
education scholars, health care professionals, educators, psychologists, psychological counselors,
among other people. Because of the wider audience, it is critical to provide convincing
information regarding early screening for mental health. However, some potential challenges
may arise in providing persuasive arguments. One of such challenges would by why early
screening is necessary. In other words, many children and young people experience a mental
health difficulty which is something the audience understands. However, access to care is limited
in most cases due to inadequate identification. Convincing the audience particularly the readers
who suffer mental health problem, is a challenge for this case. Nonetheless, there is limited
evidence regarding the acceptability of much identification and screening programs for mental
health.
The potential goal of this essay is to sensitize the audience on the importance of early
mental health screening. As noted previously, initial screening and identification can help
improve the health outcome, reduce the burden of mental health by informing early intervention.
In the course of this discussion, the essay will enable the audience to understand the early
warning signs for mental health, which they need to take note of. Moreover, it also aims at
enhancing the knowledge of the audience in regards to how to maintain positive mental health.
The success of these arguments depends on the support of the audience.
Several authors have argued out the importance of early screening and identification. For
example, Husky et al. (2006) argue that the implementation of the Systematic voluntary school-

based mental health screening as well, as the referral of the students to the correct clinicians are
the most effective ways to connect after identifying the high-risk youth in the high school
facilities. Murphey et al., 2014, on the other hand, highlight the changes needed, including a shift
of focus to the well-being of the youth rather than the mental health and disorders additionally a
shift to wellness as a community objective rather than viewing wellness as an exclusively
personal concern. Nguyen, 2019 presents data from the mental health in America that indicates
that the youth in the country are struggling with treatable and avoidable mental illnesses. The
article supports its arguments by providing a detailed analysis of first account information as
well as data from other sources to indicate the prevalence of the crisis in the American
community.
Integrating evidence in the essay will be most effective particularly at the point where we
appeal to the audience to take action and seek mental health screening. At this point integrating
evidence is critical because it helps in convincing the audience by presenting evidence-based
facts to the audience. On the same note, the audience will get to understand that action is needed
because other authors have documented the effects presented in the essay and proven by other
external stakeholders. Evidence, in this case, will provide support for the arguments raised in this
essay. Such evidence will also echo a convincing power for the audience to understand the need
for early mental health screening as early identification and treatment lead to better health
outcomes.
Revising the essay help in reflecting on how well the ideas are presented in the essay and
how well the contents are drafted. However, some important strategies can facilitate the essay
revision process. One important strategy is to seek out external feedback. In this case, I will try

to find someone outside to review the essay and provide feedback on the strengths and
weaknesses of the arguments presented in the article. From the feedback provided, it will be
easier to make revisions on the essay. On the same note, constructing a backward outline of the
essay by identifying the main ideas in each paragraph and ranking them in terms of their strength
of arguments will enhance the revision as some weak points will be removed, leaving points that
provide compelling and convincing arguments.
The feedback provided by the instructor was instrumental in identifying the various
mistakes made in the original essay. This feedback informed my revision process because it
highlighted vital areas that need to be changed. It also provided a framework for gauging my
writing skills since it also pointed out some of the areas of strength. The feedback provided by
the instructor will thus influence my progress moving forward in the sense that it shows the right
direction to take when writing-related essays. Moreover, the feedback will help maximize my
potential of writing at different stages, raise my awareness of areas of strength, and identify
actions needed to improve my writing skills.

MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS AMONG AMERICA’S YOUTH

There is increased mental health issues among the youth in America over the years
bringing to attention mental health professionals and most members of the society about the
effects of the crisis. With studies indicating the presence of mental illness in one for every five
young American, it provides a clear view of the adversity of the issue hence symptoms being
noticeable after an extended time (Murphy et al., 2014). More youth are struggling with
depression leading to instances of self-harm and suicidal thoughts which can be converted to
reality if not checked in time.
The shift in social patterns has contributed immensely to the increased mental crisis with
more young people spending most of their time using emergent technologies such as social
media, gaming platforms and smartphones; this reduces the time required to socialize and live in
a supportive environment with their friends and families. Communication has also transformed
with most of the time the youth using mobile phones and computers for communication rather
than adopting the use of the less depressive face-to-face approach; this makes them spend less
time in meeting friends (Murphy et al., 2014). Study shows that there is a direct association
between information technology use among the youth in America and the occurrence for
perceived stress, sleep disturbances and depression.
The target audience is the American Youth and mental health practitioners who are vital
in guiding the practical methods that can be used to alter the trend. The American youth between
twelve and twenty-five years are in the development phase and are unsparingly victims of mental
health issues. Study indicates that fifty to seventy per cent of the mental illnesses emerge in
children before they reach eighteen hence the need to help them get the assistance required
before it has a substantial negative impact in their life both socially and performance in their

education. The mental health practitioners need to be targeted because they act as the guiding
pillars in the recovery process.
The goal of the essay is to establish awareness about the presence of a mental health
crisis and eliminate the myth that it affects a smaller amount of youth. Awareness is the best
process to reduce the percentages of the youth having mental health issues by acknowledging its
presence and starting the healing process. The essay further establishes the basis for the problems
and the best practices to promote mental wellbeing. The implementation of coping mechanisms,
seeing mental health professionals and getting physically active are some of the methods that the
youth can use to stay mentally fit.
The potential resources for the essay include the Mental Health America who provides a
detailed analysis of a worsening youth mental health. The organization is mandated to track the
changes in mental health issues and provide recommendation for policy and programs planning.
The organization further has submitted a report on addressing the trauma among the adolescence.
The child trends organization also offer a report on the need to change the growing trend of
mental illness by focusing on the wellness and flourishing of the young people in American
society (Nguyen, 2019).
Thomee et al. (2007) research on whether the high quantity of information and
communication technology (ICT) usage is a risk factor for emerging psychological indications
among young users. The authors indicate that the use of technologies such as SMS chatting and
mobile calls in excess lead to depression. Husky et al. provide an analysis for screening high
school youth in the United States with a sample population of 2,488, where 19.6% were
identified as being at the risk of mental health issues.
