The paper sequence is to your choosing, but your sections/sub-sections must be titled and among the various sections,

you must include an Introduction, a Conclusion, and a Reference List. Each section and sub-section must have a title

and I should know where the introduction starts and where it ends. Similarly, I should be able to gather what’s your

logic by looking at the various sections and sub-section titles of your written assignment. The Writing Assignment
OBJECTIVE AND TOPIC
The purpose of the written assignment is consistent with the General Studies Social & Behavioral Sciences II’s Student
Learning Outcomes and the Course Student Learning Objective (listed in your syllabus and below again). We want to
assess whether you can address a specific topic using the economic way of thinking. We want to know if you can develop
an informed opinion and answer a question, traditionally, a question that has policy implications that are relevant to the
real world by using the economic way of thinking and applying the traditional standards of scientific inquiry
(Assumptions, Logical Deductions of Propositions/Theory/Model, Empirical Falsification of the
Propositions/Theory/Model). All of this being done ethically, i.e., citing your sources, quoting authors and sources when
you used them, no fabrication of data, no taking out of context, etc.
Economic Policy Topic List (you can’t pick a topic outside this list – all these topics have been addressed by economists
and there is a very large literature on these topics, it’s up to you to do your research and do the work):

of California, Berkeley, and was the chairwoman of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers – this is what we
call an authoritative source – The Business of the Minimum Wage. Please note this an op-ed (this is why there is no
reference list, which your paper must have) but it gives you an idea of one way to approach the topic.
