This current event presentation is a power point on a article provided below
CURRENT EVENT: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/aug/22/us…
*it needs to be a PowerPoint to help present a 5-10 minute presentation on the current event provided
* the questions in the outline must be answered and 6 references are needed to be added at the end with its own slide
*There must also be 3 multiple choice question added to the end of the presentation 5. HR Current Event class presentation: 200 points or 200% of Final grade
Each student is to conduct a strictly timed 5-10 minute “current Human Resource event”
discussion with the class. The in class presentation must be uploaded to Canvas as a Microsoft
PowerPoint presentation at least 24 hours prior to presentation. PREZI presentations are not
acceptable. You should also have your presentation backed up on a thumb drive and your
presentation must be checked out for functionality prior to your delivery. You must also be
dressed business professional to impress and for success. As in a job interview. Points will be
deducted if presentations last longer than 10 minutes and professor will be forced to stop the
presentation. Students will be randomly assigned dates for their presentation during the 3rd week of
the class. The formation of groups is for the purpose of randomization and date assignment
only: these are separate individual presentations; not group presentations. On your group’s
presentation day, I expect to see 3 or 4 separate presentations. Groups of 3 or 4 students will
present their individual topic during class sessions: See class separate tentative weekly
scheduled/assignment. Topics should focus on some aspect of Healthcare Human Resource
discussion, such as:
• Compensation
• Staffing Management
• Benefits
• Technology
• HR Administration
• Training
• Legal
• Workplace Culture
• Recruitment
The presentation can be based on a healthcare HR related news article or other media piece (such as
an interview or news report on NPR or public television). Current event articles should be no
more than 6 month’s old from your presentation and can be found in reputable sources like the
daily newspaper, L.A. Times, Wall Street Journal, Modern Healthcare, California Healthline, etc.
Workforce Week e-newsletter is an excellent source. Each presentation should include a brief
summary of the article’s (or story’s) contents, after which students are to engage the class in a
discussion of 1) why the topic is interesting and important to those engaged; 2) HR concepts and
must be cited and discussed 3) interest groups that may be involved and what perspectives they
would have; 4) implications to the Healthcare delivery system; and 5) implications to the consumers.
The presentation must incorporate at least 5 recognized scholarly references, along with at least 1
video. The video may either be form the video assignment or from your research. This video maybe
used in your in class presentation if it is short. This means a total of 6 references must be cited
In order to prevent duplicate presentations, you are required to post your presentation topic
onto Canvas in the chat section one week before your presentation date. There will be a
deduction of points if posted late or there is no post. The post should include your name, the title of
the article, a clickable link to the article, and the name and date of the publication and your group
number and legal citations/case names. I will not be reviewing the chat posts for duplicate
submissions. I will leave it up to the group members to insure that there are no duplications.
Duplicate submissions will result in minus 20 points for the entire group. Each Presentation
must include 3 Multiple Choice questions. Questions from your presentation may be used on
the midterm and final exam. Please keep in mind that the key to a successful presentation is student
engagement so be as creative as possible when you are presenting. Presenter need to be the
professor and ask questions of the class. Note: We will do our best to stick to the current event
presentation schedule but if there isn’t time for you to do your presentation, you should be
ready to present at the next available class day and time.
