Use the Jared Remy case as a reference point. Please read the 1st reference on my annotated bibliography for information on how he escalated.

This timeline presents the incidences in the past of Jared Remy, and how they grew to involve the
murder of his fiancé. It starts with speeding tickets in 1995 and his school life in Gifford School
where he was recorded to have threatened fellow students. It follows through the numerous
incidences during his teenage and adulthood years, and proves that Jared Remy had a troubled
past leading to the murder of his fiancé. The resource is useful in understanding how the history
of Remy might have led to the violent murder of Jennifer Martel.

Justine Dunlap advances a theory connecting domestic violence, mostly performed by men to
soft misogyny against women. In this article, he explains how the society has continually tolerated
the idea of battery and how it has developed to become lethal in many cases. The case of Jared
Remy is referenced here as a show of how news about battery and demeaning women make
their way into culture through news media. The article shows that leniency towards domestic
violence perpetrators is a form of misogyny and it has cost many people through injury and death.

This article delves into the issue of the prosecution process and how it is supposed to help the
victims. It explains that the arrest and release of Jared Remy was a mistake in the investigation
and prosecution role to the victims. It asserts that prosecutors have to take a more proactive
approach by working to detain repeat offenders to avoid the repeat victimization by the law or the
legal processes. It connects the murder of Martel to the release of Remy.

lawmakers and the effort to prevent other deaths such as that of Martel through tighter legislation.

Maalouf speaks about strangulation and its danger to the victim. The author explains that
perpetrators of domestic violence who strangle their victims have a high chance of killing them.
He therefore suggests that No-Drop policies should be adopted in such cases with the aim of
reducing the danger that the perpetrators present to their victims. Such policies, as in the case of
Jared Remy, are seen as effective in preventing second-time attacks and hence preventing death
to the victim who may be attacked again by the perpetrator.

Brian and Patty Martel, the parents of Jennifer, claimed that she was planning to escape and
leave the accused before she was killed. The article details how Jennifer spoke with her mother
and brother about the issue and told them not to worry because she was planning on leaving her
fiancé. It also highlights how Jennifer had always seen the best in Jared and had continued in the
abusive relationship despite her family advising her otherwise.
