Renaissance Period and the Modern Society
Introduction
The renaissance period took place around the 14th to the 17th century in Europe. During
this period there was a great revolution in the fields of technology, art, philosophy, and literature.
These developments have since shaped the societies that have followed the period including our
modern society. As such, there are various similarities that are shared between the early
Renaissance period and the modern times as well as differences that have risen due to some
values being rendered irrelevant.
Discussion
The word renaissance is of the French origin which means re-birth. This is a word that
was used to describe the 14th to the 17th century of European society due to the great revolutions
that were taking place in different fields at the period. Innovation was vibrant at the time with
lots of people being able to engage in books which were previously a rare commodity since they
were scarce and handwritten. As compared to modern society, we can see that they share a
similar context of revolution. Currently, modern society is experiencing a digital revolution.
Many aspects of society are moving from the mechanical aspect to more electronic and digital
perspectives. During the modern society, we are seeing lots of innovation in these fields which
include areas such as social marketing, social media, sharing of information as well as
automation of many tasks.
The element of art is another area where there is a great similarity between the two
periods. The use of music evolved during the Renaissance period where music was greatly used
as a tool for advancing values and highlight various issues affecting society. This is a concept

that has been maintained over subsequent societies. Music was presented through public
performances in social functions such as churches (Pettegree, 2010). This is a concept that has
been carried on over the centuries and is still common today. Music is used as a tool for
highlighting issues affecting the community as well as a form of entertainment to the public
through performances at social functions.
The field of education is another important field that experienced a revolution during the
renaissance period. Before the renaissance period, books were rare to come by. The only books
available were for the extremely wealthy in society. Additionally, books were hand-written
which means it was difficult to mass produce books. However, during the Renaissance period,
books could be mass produced and as such became easily available to the society thus making
education grow in leaps and bounds. Similarly, during modern times, society is undergoing a
similar revolution where education material is becoming easily accessible through the internet.
There are lots of journals, academic sites, libraries, and bookshelves online where people can
access academic material that is helping revolutionize education.
There are some differences between the early Renaissance and modern times. During the
early Renaissance period, women were forced into marriage and they had defined roles in the
family. Women were expected to stay at home and take care of the children and perform home
duties. On the other hand, men were expected to go out and look for the resources that the family
needed. In modern society, this has significantly changed. Men and women alike can go out and
become breadwinners. Additionally, it is perfectly acceptable for men to stay at home and take
care of their children. The rate of women being forced into marriage has steeply declined.
The distribution of art forms has become more advanced in contemporary society as
compared to the early Renaissance period. In the early Renaissance period, people often

distributed art through word-of-mouth as well as exhibitions. The uses of these forms are still
practiced in modern times. However, in modern times the use of the internet to connect buyers
and sellers has made the selling of art easier and more profound. Additionally, the geographical
distance has greatly reduced enabling people from vast corners of the world to meet, negotiate,
exchange money and have goods shipped within a short period of time.
Moreover, the art forms that are presented in modern society have changed as compared
to the early Renaissance period. The modern time see art portrayed by combining humanity,
technology, and nature among other aspects. The Renaissance period saw art that was focused on
single concepts such as humans or nature. This key difference has seen the rise of contemporary
art that is unique in various aspects that are different from the early renaissance period.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the early Renaissance period and contemporary societies have various
aspects that they share as well as differences. The early renaissance period and modern society
share similarities in technological revolutions, music, and education. On the other hand, there are
also key differences in the way art is distributed and presented as well as in the roles that both
men and women play in society. However, the similarities and difference stem from the
foundations laid during the Renaissance period which goes to show the importance of this period
to the societies that followed.

Renaissance Period and the Modern Society
Introduction
The renaissance era often suggests to the period when the European history occurring
around 1400 and 1600. Different people and scientists bear witness to this period and give
account of its occurrence. It also spread over to such periods as the Middle Ages and into the
modern day, particularly the earlier modern era. The renaissance is also mostly related to
countries such as Italy, England, France, as well as Germany. It also marked a period when
several individuals embarked investigating novel thoughts about ways in which societies ought
to function. Despite religion playing a vital role in determining ways in which individuals had to
live, people also needed to enhance their lives and their environments. While this period remains
pertinent in the world history, there are several similarities and differences of societies during the
early Renaissance in Europe to modern society.

Biswas, A. (2010). Why did scientific renaissance take place in Europe and not in India.
Retrieved from

This article classifies a scientific renaissance during the medieval Europe and its nonattendance in the ancient India. The author explains this relationship using different causal
factors that were clearly operative and harmfully non-operative in different instances. According
to the author, science in ancient India had already attained several commendable breakthroughs.
However, he argues that such meritorious successes were wasted through ingratitude and
vainglory of many elements, including labor, education levels, as well as automation at various
levels of the Indian society. He also argues that the nation also experienced the Islamic offensive

as well as civilization during its depraved state, especially with its disadvantaged state of
intellectual resources. On the other hand, he says that Europe during this time had put a
considerable emphasis on the significance of labor, mechanization, as well as capitalism. In
particular, Europe frequently questioned and defied, when necessary, some of the theoretical
principles that encroached on its social and natural sciences. For Biswas (2010), the Indian
nation has the opportunity to rekindle its scientific renaissance spirit just like the one witnessed
in Europe in its Mughal period, but failed to embrace this chance.

renaissance could offer the current understanding of the human societies, their functions, as well
as their futures. According to the author, the last few years have seen a growing literature and
scholarship on this field, especially in relation to re-examining its origins and meanings. He also
argues that the renaissance era has also witnessed an increased number of articles, books, as well
as other publications for theoretical insiders and for the concerned public. Noticeably, this
intriguing article attempts to bridge the medieval as well as earlier modern era and pays
significant emphasis on the histories of knowledge, literature, as well as other disciplines
nowadays.
Trivellato, F. (2010). Renaissance Italy and the Muslim Mediterranean in Recent Historical
Work. The Journal of Modern History, 82(1), 127-155.
In this article, the author also explores the history of recent renaissance in two distinct
places, the Muslim Mediterranean as well as Italy. She lays down a basic, but important level of
understanding of this period in the two regions. She also reviews several studies that show
beyond any doubt, the ancient narratives regarding the displacement of the Mediterranean during
the 15th century era. Additionally, she also explores what the Mediterranean perspective could
bring into the study of renaissance. For her, the wide array of the European as well as nonEuropean literature in addition to more creative analytical sources could assist in reconstructing
the history of renaissance.

recent research. International Review of Social History, 53(S16), 19-44.

males, leaving out women in most part. Besides, he also argues that the corporate world not only
showed women from the point of mistresses, but also prevented them from entering any
apprenticeship or assuming higher positions with masters.
