I) Theories of International Relations (Required)Please compare and contrast any two of the following three theories of international relations – Realism, Idealism, or Neo-conservatism. When writing your answer please be sure to address the following specific concerns: 1) define each theory and provide historical examples which illustrate how each approach tries to explain international politics. Relevant topics that should be covered include each theory’s approach to war, trade, and cultural exchange. 2) Next, which viewpoint do you feel does the best job of explaining and predicting changes in the international system? 3) Lastly, which theoretical approach do you feel would be the most successful in promoting America’s National Interest? When writing your answer, please be sure to provide plenty of examples from the history of international politics. II) Terrorism (Optional)Since 9/11/2001, the governments of the world have struggled to find the best strategy and tactics to cope with the globalization of terrorism. Please write an essay that addresses the following four specific concerns: 1) defines terrorism and evaluates the nature of the problems posed by terrorism to the peace and prosperity of the international system, 2)critically analyzes the domestic and foreign policy techniques that are being used to combat the threat, 3) considers what the future of the struggle against terrorism might look like – stalemate, success or failure? 4) Don’t forget to provide plenty of supporting current historical examples.
