Rise of Authoritarian Regimes in Italy and Russia

Please write a 1000 to 1200 word essay on one of the following topics and check for a plagiarism review.  Please know that if you choose to use other people’s words, you are only allowed 2 quotes of no more than 2 sentences each in the whole essay. 1. Imagine you were to give a lecture on important ideas and movements the Long Late Nineteenth Century (1870-1914) and could use only 8 images/artifacts to highlight your message. What images would you choose and why? (Remember one image can illustrate more than 1 idea or movement)

1. The 1920s saw the rise of authoritarian regimes in Italy and Russia (think Mussolini and Lenin). What appeal did they have in common and how were they different? What lessons can we learn from their rise if we are to safeguard our democracy from authoritarianism? In answering this question please make sure you examine the ideology, programs and tactics of both regimes.

1. Hitler and the Nazis failed to garner much support in 1923 and yet rose to power and gained tremendous popularity in the 1930s. How do we explain the choices that led to this outcome? What lessons does it teach us if we want to safeguard our democracy? Please make sure you provide evidence for your conclusions from interwar Germany.
