In a well-crafted personal essay, discuss the concept of perceptual paradigms in a manner that demonstrates your understanding of the concept.
This essay will be written in first-person. You may chose to discuss the concept using personal experience as example. However, you do not need to. No one will read your essay except me without your approval. At the same time, don’t reveal anything that you are not comfortable with others knowing. This is not meant to be therapy.

The essay can be anywhere from 3- 5 pages. I am not as concerned about length as I am with clarity of concept and application of terms. That said, you must do the application of terms justice. If you just write a story of an experience you will not pass.

Remember- Paradigm, perceptual filter, top down processing, belief system and mind set are all interchangeable terms.
Stereotypes become a kind of paradigm paralysis. This is a useful way into the topic.

You might discuss a particularbelief with which you were raised and that you later challenged. You might discuss your self concept and how certain aspects of it were formed. You might discuss differences in culture or religion that you have encountered and how you dealt with them. You might talk about a paradigm that, after reflection, you chose to keep.
Delve! Reflect! Look for the deep structure. The primary question is: What is informing my belief- experience, media, culture, education, Parents? All of the above!
