For your third paper assignment, you will compose an essay on one of the pre-approved topics, listed below. With your understanding of audience awareness and rhetorical situations, you should be able to tailor a specific message to a specific audience. You should be able to develop a strong thesis statement based on a specific message you are trying to convey to a particular audience. You also should have a variety of writing techniques to employ depending on the content of your essay.
Be sure to use at least two sources from the JSCC Library databases, in addition to the primary text, for a total of three sources overall. The JSCC Library database sources should be used to help prove your points. For your primary text, you must base the foundation of your essay on one of the works required for our course, but the direction and the focus of the essay are up to you.
Discuss the significance of one of the works of our course, and consider discussing any/all adaptations it may have. This will be an argument paper. You are free to discuss any historic or current issues in American society, an issue one of our texts has raised. You are free to discuss solutions to any of these problems. Think about ways to improve American society based on the issues our texts have raised. This is not going to be an easy assignment because you are going to need to think about these topics in new and innovative ways. Don’t just rehash what others have said about these topics. Develop your own way of thinking, and consider these topics from angles no one else has before.

Make sure you have clear topic sentences for each paragraph.
Provide sufficient details and evidence to help your audience fully understand your topic.
Adhere to the academic outline and structure.
Be sure to explain your evidence in the context of your arguments.
Be sure to explain how each body paragraph supports your thesis statement.

Summarize the information from your sources carefully, making sure to not plagiarize.
Use signal phrases and end citations.

Proofread and revise before you submit your assignment.
Make sure your paper is essay length (this usually means 4-5 full pages, including the Works Cited page).
