History Assignment | Online Assignment
As I mentioned before one of the things I like to do is give students their Final Exam topic so they can work on it as we go along in the term if they so desire.
I have set up what is called a journal discussion forum. It is a nice place for you to post things related to your final exam topic as we go along and thus build your final exam but you can also use that as a place to ask me questions; for example, maybe you want my opinion on whether your ideas for your final are good ones. It is below this assignment dropbox here on the Final Exam page. Posting there is not required though.
So on to your final. As we explore history I always desire to have students look at the past and apply it to their lives. This class isn’t just about learning history but rather it is about using history. The ultimate purpose of this class is to help each one of you grow by using the lessons of history. So your final is tied to that specific purpose.
Topic: How have you used the historical lessons we have covered in class to make yourself and those around you better? How have you used the lessons to impact your friends, family, and/or community?
You will need to identify at least 3 specific lessons and their real-world application. The 3 must come from different periods: one from each of the following, Modules 1-5, Modules 6-9, and Modules 10-14. So in each section you need to identify a lesson you have learned, explore the historical context of that lesson, and explore the ways in which that lesson has helped you grow as a person.
Please note that the application isn’t what you have done previously in your life or what you will do in the future but rather what you have done during the time of this class. I want this class to embolden you to act, to fulfill its purpose.
You can submit the final exam in one of several different formats. Of course you can write a paper. But you may also choose to present a powerpoint presentation (with your audio commentary) or even a video lecture. I’m basically open as to how you want to present it and we will talk about that in your journal forum.
Length guidelines:
Essay should be 5-7 pages (not including title page and reference page).
Powerpoint should be 10-15 slides (not including title slide and reference slide).
Video should be 10-15 minutes.
