Module 1

Let’s begin our discussion with a reflection regarding two questions (* my comment- think of this as A and B) First, What is your ultimate goal in organizing the learning environment? Second, What is the biggest barrier in organizing the learning environment?

Essential Questions 2 & 3 (taken from Module 4)

Your comments and reflections regarding value added, necessary and waste work, revealed both remarkable similarities and divergence. The key aspect of the discussion relates to how, once we have decided what value added work should consist of, how do we increase our time on value added work? This is essential question 2.

A related essential question is how can we use our time more efficiently? This is essential question 3. We will try to answer these two questions in Module 4. To assist us in the research process, we need to develop a framework to guide our analysis. One useful framework is provided by Larry Lashway, which provides insights into several critical areas of leadership(click the full text command). This site is very useful in terms of implementation. Leaders must articulate a vision. That vision must cause action to effect change and educational improvement. Another useful site is the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory (SEDL) which is also a search site where you will begin your investigative journey.

For guidelines—these are the Learning Objectives

Identify examples of value added work in their respective school organizations.

Develop a minimum of 4 skills that will increase their time on value added work.

Essential Questions 4 & 5 Module 5 week 7

Thus far we have been focusing on three essential questions that have guided our discussions and research. There are four more essential questions we need to answer. Question 4 asks what structural alternatives will increase the probability of raising student achievement?

Question 5 asks, what aspects of the school environment will impact on student achievement?

Question 6 asks how do you effectively place students and teachers to maximize student achievement?

And question 7 asks how do you effectively allocate resources to maximize student achievement? We will attempt to answer these remaining questions in the upcoming modules. In this module we will focus on questions 4 and 5.

Essential Questions 6 & 7

We have focused on answering essential question 1 – 5 thus far. There are two remaining questions. Essential question 6 asks “How do you effectively place students and teachers to maximize student achievement?”

Essential question 7, asks “How do we effectively allocate resources to maximize student achievement?” The answer is included in how we allocate resources either on the school or district level. As a principal and sometimes depending on district policies and procedures, you will have some control and/or influence over the allocation process.
