Instructions: All students are required to write a descriptive essay based on his/her placement. Because each placement provides different services, students should write about a subject this is closely related to their internship field experience. The essay should have FIVE sections as follows:
• Introduction. That is where the student briefly introduces the subject or the object of the essay. Here you would want to get your reader’s attention by asking a leading question or you may want to share/provide some detail information about the subject, such as: background information about the subject, a preview of the main points of the essay and your thesis statement that affirms your main ideas of the essay. The introduction should not constitute a lot of description; you should give a brief overview of what you intend to talk about in the body paragraph. Write a thesis statement at the end of the introduction – a thesis statement is a single sentence that mentions the objective of the essay in summary. Basically, your introduction should be written in which you should attempt to draw your readers attention and to convince to want to read more about your subject.

Main Body. In this section, you will state the main idea of the topic which should transition from the introduction paragraph. You should provide supporting details about the subject or object of descriptive essay by further exploring and explaining in details in the body of the essay. Some supporting evidence may include: facts, theories, statistics, and quoted authorities. Please note that if sources are used, you MUST use APA parenthetical citations. This part of the essay provides readers with the insight into what you think about the particular topic. Link your paragraphs using good transition words for descriptive essays. Most of the transition words are usually conjunctions, so you should be able to select appropriate conjunctions to suit your explanations.

• Part II: In the main body of the essay, you should provide additional information that address the main idea of the subject and transitions from the previous paragraph. You should provide supporting details. Provide supporting details to defend or strengthen the topic sentence.

• Part III: Provide a topic sentence that transitions and states the main ideas from the previous paragraph. Note: Additional paragraphs can be created using this format.

• Conclusion. It is the last but not least important component of a descriptive essay. Here you are to restate and reword the thesis statement showing how you have achieved your purpose. In this part, you will summarize the main points and relate your conclusion to the opening of the essay the author provides his own thoughts and conclusion of the subject or object of the essay, which depends greatly on author’s writing style, imagination, and analytical skills.

1. Introduction
Tips on how to come up with a good introduction:

It is the introduction of your essay that sets footing for the reader in your work. Before heading to the body, the reader will first come across your introduction. It is the introduction that makes the first impression of your work, so should it be attractive. From reading the introduction, the reader will either get bored with the rest of your work or gain the zeal to proceed. It is through the introduction that you can be able to make the reader understand what is to be shared in the essay. The following tips will guide you in writing a good introduction to your descriptive essay:

• Start the introduction with suspense – you have to choose the right words in the introduction to capture the eye of the reader. To achieve this, you should apply phrases or even questions so that the reader can find the answers later in your essay.
• Go straight to the points – the introduction should not constitute a lot of description; you should give a brief overview of what you intend to talk about in the body paragraph. At the same time, you should not reveal the objective of the essay in the introduction, because it would make the reader disinterested with the rest of your work. When the reader gets a hint of what you intend to achieve in the first paragraph, they will see no need to head to the body.
