Is the Criminal Justice system too lenient on youth crime?
There are some who feel that, rather than looking to rehabilitate, the criminal justice system should punish young people and that the current system is too indulgent. Others argue that young people should be assisted to remain out of trouble rather than labelled and stigmatised as an offender at an early age.

Some key questions are:
• Which interventions are effective in reducing reoffending (and improving other outcomes such as education; training and employment; health and accommodation) for children and young people at various stages of the youth justice system?
• What works to increase compliance among children and young people with the various youth justice disposals and supervision?
• What type of interventions reduce reoffending among children and young people who are being supervised in the community or in custody?
• Is sentencing of young people too lenient?
• Is the whole system too “soft”, should the youth court be more intimidating to deter young people from committing offences
