Description
This assignment requires you to write a short essay (1000-1250 words) analyzing a single print advertisement (e.g. a full-page advertisement in a magazine) for a commercial product. The essay should reflect your careful analysis of the advertisement by offering an argumentative thesis about how it works to persuade its audience. This analysis will require you to carefully think about both the target audience for the advertisement (gender, age, class, level of education, etc.) and the persuasive techniques that the ad uses (e.g. the effect of the language, use of colour, perspective, music, etc.), but these elements should be presented only insofar as they are relevant to your argument. No external research is required for this paper. Aside from finding an interesting advertisement, please do not conduct any further research. If you disregard this request and draw on outside resources, you must properly document your sources using MLA or APA citations (see a guide like the Checkmate Pocket Guide for further instructions). At the end of the essay, include a copy of the advertisement. Your essay will be marked based on the following criteria: the quality of your thesis, the organization of your essay, the relevance of your evidence, the coherency and detail of your analysis, and the technical quality of your writing. Your essay must be submitted in Brightspace as a Word or PDF document with the following formatting, adhering to MLA or APA style guidelines: – Font: Times New Roman – Font Size: 12 pt. – Margins: 1 inch – Spacing: Double
