Please select a foreign country that you have visited or got to know by other means. Analyze its differences with the U.S. in terms of political, economic and legal systems. Try to use the frameworks discussed in class to structure your essay. Discuss the country’s stage of economic development and use statistics from the textbook or other reliable sources to support your argument.
The essay can be 3~5 pages, Times New Roman, 12 pt, double space.
The essay will be graded based on 100 point scale (and then converted to 5% in the total course grade). Grading is based on the following criteria:
Clarity. The essay needs to be easy to understand. The key arguments need to be clearly articulated. 20%
Clear flow of logic. The essay needs to be logical with convincing arguments. Try to use tables / graphs to illustrate differences and make comparisons. Use quantitative information to support key arguments. Conclusions need to be based on solid analysis. 40%
Link to textbook contents. Use the frameworks discussed in class and the textbook contents as the theoretical foundation to conduct analysis. 20%
Comprehensiveness. The analysis needs to be comprehensive and covers various facets of national differences between the country being studied and the U.S. 20%
